WHAT IS BEYOND YOUR ABILITY TO THINK AND FEEL AND BELIEVE IS A TRANSFORMATION BEYOND YOUR GRASP.

What do I mean?

If you won’t allow the thought that you could be a great concert artist, or great golfer, or great runner, then you cannot take the steps mentally, emotionally, and physically to make it so.

Writing this essay has gotten me to go back to the famous dystopian novel 1984 by George Orwell. He writes about a future of constant wars between the different continents and governments.

One of the most powerful ways the governments of these dystopias control their populations is by eliminating words from the dictionary, severely limiting the vocabularies of the populace. So that people can’t conceive of radical ideas like freedom, because there are no words for these concepts.

If a performing musician or an athlete can’t even see him or herself as the best in the world, then he or she can’t even think the thought. If you can’t think the thought of being amazing at what you do, then how can you have the inspired feelings to take the steps to go for it?

YOU CAN’T! The thought always precedes the feeling or belief. ALWAYS! It may be too fast for you to be aware of the thought, but the thought always precedes the feeling or belief. These are thoughts and feelings that are deeply true to you, whether they inspire or deflate. This means if you can’t believe yourself capable of being a wonderful musician or athlete, then the internalized thoughts you have will back this up and block thoughts of , “I can do this!”

How does this tie into the Alexander Technique?

If you can’t conceive of being a great musical performer or a great athlete without damaging your body, then excelling at whatever you choose means you have to ruin your body.

This belief is the norm and a given to those who their bodies to excel. IF YOU CAN CONCEIVE OF BEING AMAZING AT YOUR SPECIALIZED ACTIVITY WITHOUT HARMING YOUR BODY, THEN YOU ARE READY TO GO TO A CERTIFIED ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE TEACHER TO LEARN HOW TO ACCOMPLISH THIS.

I use the word certified, because uncertified teachers can’t walk the walk. They can’t help you get out of trouble, because they haven’t done the work, put in the hours to do what they’re attempting to teach you. This is the primary basis of the Alexander Technique. You must embody the posture and technique you are teaching, or the student can’t truly get what great body use and great technique is.

LET YOUR THOUGHTS CONCEIVE OF WHAT HAS BEEN INCONCEIVABLE, SO THAT YOUR FEELINGS AND BELIEFS WILL INSPIRE YOU TO BE ABLE TO DO EXTRAORDINARY THINGS!
