FEELINGS MAKE LIES YOU BELIEVE ABOUT YOURSELF FEEL OVERWHELMINGLY TRUE. WHEN WE BELIEVE SOMETING AND COME TO REALIZE IT IS NOT TRUE, AND IT STILL FEELS TRUE, THEN THE BELIEF CAN STILL MAKE US FEEL/BEHAVE/BELIEVE THE LIE.

What does this mean?

It places us in the extraordinary position of knowing something is not true, but still living our life for all intents and purposes run by a belief that defies reality.

Why is this so important?

IT CAN CRIPPLE AN ATHLETE OR PERFORMING MUSICIAN, IF HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT HOW YOU RUN OR PLAY THE PIANO OVERRIDES HOW WELL YOU RUN OR HOW WELL YOU PLAY THE PIANO. IT CAN CRIPPLE YOU.

In other words how well you play and instrument or play golf can be seen and felt as not good enough, and self doubt can cause you not to be good enough.

The Alexander Technique in its purest form does not address the person’s belief system. It simply addresses the technique and postural habits that are glaringly obvious to the certified Alexander Technique teacher in a specialized activity, that is harming the athlete or musical performer. So, we teach the client to stop doing what isn’t working, and do what works with physical release and ease and balance.

But what’s a client to do if his or her believed lies feel overwhelmingly true, the client knows they’re not true, but they still feel so true that they jeopardize all the good Alexander Technique stuff you’re teaching your client?

As I sit here and write this, I don’t know exactly where I’m going, but I’m reasonably sure I’ll get there.

This is the underlying basis for all of my essays.

I STATE THE PROBLEM AND SOLVE IT. If I didn’t solve the problem in an essay, I’d leave the reader with and unsolved or unsolvable problem, which would leave you depressed and in despair.

That would not serve either of us!

I want to address for a moment what the Alexander Technique can do for the client willing to dedicate him or herself to revamping their posture technique.

I HAVE NEVER WORKED WITH A MUSICIAN OR ATHLETE THAT I COULDN’T SEE THE OBVIOUS BAD TECHNIQUE AND POSTURE ON THE SURFACE, AND THE UNDERLYING PHYSICAL POOR HABITS. THESE POOR POSTURAL HABITS AND POOR TECHNIQUE CAN BE RELEASED AND REPLACED WITH WHAT WORKS WITH THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE.

Can the underlying believed lies of a client be released also?

YES!!

I say underlying, because beliefs about your abilities that run your life that are not true, have been pushed into the unconscious by you. In other words, you believed them, forgot you believed them, and you have lived by them.

So, by bringing them to the surface and not running from them, you have begun the process of standing up to the bullying of this horribly sneaky cruel bully you created.

For me, I started the process of standing up to my beliefs that told me I wasn’t a good enough guitarist, didn’t have the potential to be good enough, through my journaling.

When I brought a lie about myself to the surface, I could easily fill up 10 notebook pages looking at the lie, embracing it. It lost its power in the light of my writing very analytically and emotionally about it.

Forgotten believed lies about oneself do not like the light of day, because they were put in place quickly and fearfully, and you instantly forgot you made them.

So, beliefs put into place with fear, that we ran from and still run from, continue to make a mess of what we’re truly capable of.

STOP RUNNING FROM FORGOTTEN BELIEFS THAT DIMINISH YOUR TALENT. REMEMBER THEM, CONFRONT THEM IN YOUR JOURNALING, AND DO WHAT YOU LOVE WITHOUT BELIEVED LIES DIMINISHING YOUR JOY.
